象管星雲 to̍h 親像是英國童話「To̍h 是按呢 ê 故事」內底一篇「象仔囝」故事 ê 銀河版插圖。 伊就 tī 懸閣遠 ê 仙王座 遐，彎彎曲曲迵過發射星雲 kah 少年星團 複合體 IC 1396。 倒爿 ê 宇宙象管嘛叫做 vdB 142，伊 ê 長度是超過 20 光年長。 這幅詳細 ê 望遠鏡特寫，有翕著伸 tùi 後壁去、足光 ê 山龍，kah 這內底 一區一區 ê 低溫 星際 塗粉氣體。 這个 烏暗、虯做伙 ê 雲 內底有做新恆星 ê 原始材料，嘛會當 kā 原恆星藏 tī 內底。 這个較暗 ê IC 1396 星團複合體 tī 差不多 3000 光年遠 ê 所在。 伊 tī 天頂 ê 範圍是足大–ê，有 5 度遐爾闊。 毋過 這幅影像 ê 視野才 1 度闊爾爾，這个角寸尺差不多是兩粒月娘遐爾闊。 是講 tī 彎彎曲曲 ê 象管星雲倒爿下跤 ê 烏暗形體，有一寡人 kā 號做 宇宙車隊。

Chhiūⁿ-kńg-seng-hûn to̍h chhiⁿ-chhiūⁿ sī Eng-kok-tông-ōe “To̍h sī án-ne ê kò͘-sū” lāi-té chi̍t-phiⁿ “Chhiūⁿ-á-kiáⁿ” kò͘-sū ê gîn-hô pán chhah-tô͘. I to̍h tī koân koh hn̄g ê Sian-ông-chō hiah, oan-oan-khiau-khiau thàng-kòe hoat-siā-seng-hûn kah siàu-liân seng-thoân ho̍k-ha̍p-thé IC 1396. I to̍h tī kuân koh hn̄g ê Sian-ông-tsō hiah, uan-uan-khiau-khiau thàng-kuè huat-siā-sing-hûn kah siàu-liân sing-thuân ho̍k-ha̍p-thé IC 1396. Tò-pîng ê ú-tiū tshiūnn-kńg mā kiò-tsuè vdB 142, i ê tn̂g-tōo si tshiau-kè 20 kng-nî tn̂g. [English] Elephant’s Trunk and Caravan

Like an illustration in a galactic Just So Story, the Elephant’s Trunk Nebula winds through the emission region and young star cluster complex IC 1396, in the high and far off constellation of Cepheus. Seen on the left the cosmic elephant’s trunk, also known as vdB 142, is over 20 light-years long. This detailed telescopic view features the bright swept-back ridges and pockets of cool interstellar dust and gas that abound in the region. But the dark, tendril-shaped clouds contain the raw material for star formation and hide protostars within. Nearly 3,000 light-years distant, the relatively faint IC 1396 complex covers a large region on the sky, spanning over 5 degrees. This rendition spans a 1 degree wide field of view though, about the angular size of 2 full moons. Of course the dark shapes below and to the right of the outstretched Elephant’s Trunk, are known to some as The Caravan.
